The Temple of Heaven stands as a magnificent testament tothe ancient rituals and traditions of the Ming and Qing dynasties. This famoussite was a dedicated altar for emperors to perform ceremonies for worshippingheaven, praying for rain, and hoping for bountiful harvests. The temple area isdivided into an inner and an outer altar. The north part is circular and thesouth square, symbolizing the ancient concept of "heaven is round andearth is square." The inner altar is further divided by a palace wall intothe "Prayer for Good Harvest Altar" in the north and the"Circular Mound Altar" in the south. The former was where emperorsheld grand ceremonies in spring to pray for favorable weather and abundantcrops. The latter is an open-air, three-tiered circular stone altar used forwinter solstice worship. Here, visitors can learn about the elaborate ritualsof worshipping heaven through the exhibits in the sacrificial ceremony museumand the music and dance museum. The Forbidden City, also known as the PalaceMuseum, is an iconic symbol of ancient China. As the imperial palace of theMing and Qing dynasties, it is a remarkable complex of well-preserved ancientarchitecture. Divided into the "outer court" and the "innercourt," it showcases the grandeur of imperial life. The outer court waswhere emperors handled state affairs, while the inner court was the residenceof the imperial concubines.
